Once Again AfroDothan.com made it to an event and was able to take a few pictures for you. Mackroyce Corbitt, Jr., Owner of Computer Printing Etc./AfroDothan.com, was there to help as a facilitator. The event was held April 5, 2008 and it was in Birmingham, AL. The event was the Equal Voice for America's Families Campaign, which is a part of the Marguerite Casey Foundation. The event was held to bring America's Families together young, old, black, white, rich, poor, hispanic, asian, etc. and give them an opportunity to speak out on what concerns they have and what issues are effecting them. Another goal was to take these concerns and come up with an action plan. Some concerns included Education, Health Care, Wages, Child Care, Employment, Immigration and much more.
Many of the issues that concerned us the most here in Alabama, where concerns that we all felt where important no matter what background we came from and we all came to the conclusion that it is up to us to come together and make something happen. Some of the ways we felt this could be accomplished is through education of ones self and others, communicating more, and letting our leaders know how we feel as individuals about certin issues. To close the day off Congressman Atur Davis gave a wonderful speach, mentioning Martin Luther King and the effects of his death and how we should continue to fight for change in Alabama and America.
The next gathering will be September 6, 2008 in Birmingham at the Civic Center with an estimated 5,000 or more attendees expected. For more information on the Equal Voice Campaign visit www.equalvoice2008.org. |
